End of your season ?

So it is nearly the end of the season – just a few more races around the country. That is unless you are a traveller and love to race in hot climates. Those races keep on happening. So one could race throughout the year. However, this is not a good idea as you would not perform well , you could get injured or ill or even have a divorce to sort out. The 90 day travel limit does restrict some athletes as to where they can race and how long they can go out before the race to acclimatize.

For many of us age group athletes its time to take a break – catch up with the jobs you have been putting off. Take family out for a well earned meal – thank them for the support and slip it in at the end about the races you are planning in 2026.

Your body needs both a physical and mental break of maybe 3-5 weeks depending on how much and what you raced in 2025. It may seem a long time yet 2026 is no that far away and already races are filling up for 2026.

It’s time to reflect on what went well in 2025 and what did not go so good. Look at both and see what you can take with you or leave behind , or even change slightly to achieve your goal. It is time to look at your weakest element and work on that aspect during winter. Try a different sport during winter : cross country running/ cyclocross. Both of these are really fun and great training in lots of ways.
